What is the Fracture Clinic?
Our Fracture Clinic is a subspecialty service focused on managing fractures and soft tissue injuries that are suitable for community-based care. These include most musculoskeletal injuries that have been assessed and, if necessary, discussed with plastic and/or orthopaedic surgeons. The clinic plays a vital role in preventing long-term disabilities and ensuring patients return to their pre-injury level of function and quality of life.
Our services include:
In-house imaging (X-rays) and referral-based imaging (ultrasound, MRI).
Casting, splinting, wound dressings, moon boots, and crutches—issued and adjusted onsite.
Specialist referrals under ACC claims for prompt treatment when appropriate.
Follow-up assessments to monitor healing and recovery.
Our Approach
Our clinic follows strict guidelines set out by the Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care and the Royal College of Orthopaedic Surgeons Australasia. We work closely with urgent care doctors, orthopaedic and plastic surgeons to ensure evidence-based, coordinated care.
Patient education is a key focus, helping individuals understand their injury and recovery plan.
When to seek help
If you’ve sustained an injury and suspect a fracture or soft tissue damage, our clinic can provide timely assessment and care. For severe pain, open wounds, or visible deformities, please visit the Emergency Department first. Otherwise, we’re here to support your recovery journey.
Accessing this service
You can be referred to our Fracture Clinic by your GP or through our 24-hour Urgent Care service. We also accept direct referrals from urgent care doctors. ACC claims can be initiated in-clinic, and must be lodged within 8 weeks of injury to ensure seamless coverage.
